"Mr Gilbert, time for your medications." This was the third time in three days the nurse had awakened him with those words.

Opening his eyes Cal growled, "Yeah, yeah." After taking them, he grinned slowly. "This is the last time you get to do this."

"That's right. You're getting sprung today," she replied when she pulled the IV pole around so he could reach it. "The doctor still has to give you one more going over but that's it. For now, bathroom, breakfast, and a walk up and down the hall."

An hour later, with all that accomplished, Cal waited impatiently for his doctor. When the door opened, he almost said, "It's about time." Instead he broke into a smile when he saw Joseph standing there with a small suitcase in hand.

"I brought you clothes, as ordered," Joseph told him, smiling back before coming over to give him a kiss.

"Something that'll fit over this, I hope," Cal replied moments later, carefully touching his well-bandaged shoulder.

"No. I thought you could wear the hospital gown and just tuck it into your jeans."

"Joe," Cal growled before chuckling when Joseph took out an oversized, even for him, tee shirt to show him what was printed on the front. "'Cleverly disguised as an adult'? Hey now!"

"I figured it might make you smile. You haven't had much reason to in the last couple of days."

"I do now. I'm going home."

"Yes, well, about that…" Joseph sat down beside him, reaching for Cal's hands.

Cal pulled them away, staring at him, almost afraid to ask. "Now what?"

"Detective Calloway came by the work site just before I left last night to tell me Patrick Wood, or at least someone who a patrol officer thought looked very much like him, had been spotted a block from our house. The man vanished before the officer could stop him."

"But he couldn't swear it was him, I take it." Cal shook his head slowly. "I'm not going to be scared away by a possible sighting, Joe. No way, no damned how!" He stared defiantly at Joseph. "So get that out of your head right now."

"I was afraid of that." Joseph very carefully hugged Cal, obviously being mindful of his shoulder. "But it was just what I expected from you. So now we need to decide how we're going to handle the problem, if indeed it is one."

Taking strength from Joseph's words, Cal smiled as he sank back against the pillows again. "For a minute I was afraid you were going to fight me on this."

Joseph smiled back. "For a minute I was going to, because I love you. And then I knew I wouldn't, because I love you."

"That actually made sense, I think." Cal studied Joseph's face and saw something in it which made him ask, despite what they'd just said, "Would you rather I find somewhere safe to hole up until they catch him? I mean after what you…" He hesitated to continue.

Joseph frowned in question. Then, seeming to understand why Cal had asked, he shook his head.
